  • The Lundahl LL1678 is a high-performance moving coil step-up transformer designed for premium MC SUT and moving coil preamp applications. Configurable for turns ratios of 1:8, 1:16 and 1:32, the LL1678 is an excellent choice for low-output moving coil cartridges requiring low noise, natural dynamics, and precise cartridge loading.

     

    Based on Lundahl’s classic LL9206 design, the LL1678 features reduced copper resistance, improved level capability, and enhanced frequency response while maintaining excellent low-frequency bandwidth. Its dual-coil structure surrounds each secondary winding with two primary windings, resulting in excellent immunity to surrounding magnetic fields and highly flexible connection options.

     

    The transformer is fully compatible with the MC1 DIY Kit, allowing you to build your own high-quality moving coil step-up transformer preamp using the same Lundahl technology found in high-end commercial MC SUT designs. Please note if using these transformers with the MC1 kit, only 1:16 and 1:32 ratios will be available.

     

    The LL1678 uses Lundahl’s cobalt-based uncut amorphous strip core and is housed in a mu-metal enclosure for excellent shielding and low noise performance. For those seeking even greater headroom and lower distortion, the LL1678XL version increases the core cross section by approximately 40%, improving low-frequency performance, signal handling, and overall ease of presentation.

     

    Available with either standard or XL core sizes depending on your system requirements and cartridge choice.

     

    Every LL1678 pair includes a free HASL mounting PCB suitable for DIY moving coil SUT projects. For premium builds, you can upgrade to an ENIG gold-plated PCB for an additional £10.

     

    Most Lundahl transformers are wound to order and typically require a 4–8 week lead time. We do however stock selected popular models, in which case your order will ship immediately.

Notes:

When the desired load is below 40 Ω, you’ll see an advisory suggesting a primary-side load. Calculations still run normally.
