Desired load is below 40 Ω. Consider using a primary-side load for very low target impedances.

The Lundahl LL1933 is a high-performance moving coil step-up transformer designed for premium MC SUT and moving coil preamp applications. Configurable for turns ratios of 1:8 and 1:16, the LL1933 is an excellent choice for low-output moving coil cartridges requiring low noise, excellent linearity, and precise cartridge loading.
The transformer is fully compatible with the MC1 DIY Kit, allowing you to build your own high-quality moving coil step-up transformer preamp using the same Lundahl technology found in high-end commercial MC SUT designs.
The LL1933 combines Lundahl’s dual-coil architecture with Cardas high-purity copper wire in an oversized design. Unlike the amorphous cobalt core LL1931, the LL1933 uses a nickel lamination core chosen for its low distortion and linear magnetisation curve. This makes it a strong choice for systems where neutrality, accuracy, and low-level detail are the priority.
The dual-coil structure also improves immunity to external magnetic fields from power supplies, motors, and other nearby sources of interference, while the mu-metal can provides additional shielding for low-noise moving coil applications.
Available with either copper or silver wire depending on your system preference and budget.
Every LL1933 pair includes a free HASL mounting PCB suitable for DIY moving coil SUT projects. For premium builds, you can upgrade to an ENIG gold-plated PCB for an additional £10.
Most Lundahl transformers are wound to order and typically require a 4–8 week lead time. We do however stock selected popular models, in which case your order will ship immediately.

Instructions
- Select your transformer model and step-up ratio
- Enter your phono input impedance (default is 47kΩ)
- Enter the desired load impedance for your cartridge
- Optionally enter cartridge specs for gain predictions
- Click Calculate for loading recommendations
Notes:
When the desired load is below 40 Ω, you’ll see an advisory suggesting a primary-side load. Calculations still run normally.
"No resistor required" - Phono input already provides suitable load
